Introduction of Xinfan East Lake: As the key cultural relic protection unit of Sichuan Province and one of the two existing and proved cultural parks of Tang Dynasty in China, Xinfan East Lake had been dug under the order of Li Deyu, the famous Prime Minister of Tang Dynasty who once served as the leader of Xinfan County. It has an area of 18 thousand square meters with one third covered by water, enjoying exquisite and unique styling, rigorous layout and elegant taste and boasting almost all the perfect architectural forms and expressions of China’s traditional park. There are over 20 towers and pavilions built in Qing Dynasty, surrounded by ancient trees and famous flowers. It is also honored as “the Famous Park of Ancient Shu” with its beautiful landscape.
Huai Li Hall, the main building of Xinfan East Lake, was rebuilt during the years of Tongzhi governance in Qing Dynasty. Unadorned and exquisite, the grey tiles, low-profile hall, winding galleries all carry people’s respect and memory of Li Deyu, who once guarded the border, protected the people and contributed to the regional prosperity. “Sifei Memorial Temple” was built in honor of the six virtuous men of Fei’s Family in the late Ming and early Qing dynasties and the historic site of “Sanxian Hall” for Li Deyu, Song Wangyi (the father of Wang Anshi) and Mei Zhi, which have all added to the uniqueness of Donghu Park.
Enjoying a high reputation over a thousand years, the East Lake has gathered a lot of great scholars and celebrities in West Sichuan, who left numerous poems, couplets, calligraphy and paintings. The Forest of Steles has also collected many master works with very important historical and artistic values.
